Four O'Clocks

Haven't posted in nearly a week. That horrible writer about whom I sometimes complain has been on quite a blogging rampage lately spewing filth and venom at anyone and everyone who he thinks is standing in the way of his success.

For the most part, it's mid-list writers he attacks. I've never seen him go for over four weeks straight without taking a break. My response to all this nonsense was to start a WordPress blog that chronicles his behavior and analyzes his blog entries. Just snippets here and there for block quotes, under the Fair Use provision of the U.S. Copyright Law. It annoys him, but there's nothing he can do about it.

Now, for the flowers. These were all that sprouted from really old seed. They all turned out yellow; we were hoping for a mix that also had red and orange. Not much else blooms this time of year.

One Link Led to Another, and Another . . .

I was looking through my referral tracking statistics and backtracked to a link at this blog over at MySpace, which appears to be new. If its author would like, I'd be happy to blogroll her in my sidebar (just leave a comment, if that's the case).

Though I do keep track of Pacione's shenanigans and occasionally post about them, it's not the focus of this blog. Still, I welcome any new readers it may bring me.

Come one, come all. Feel free to stay awhile if you enjoy what you see. Otherwise, thanks for stopping by.

The Literary Bone

(Reposted with the author's permission)

The Literary Bone was meant to be an anthology magazine. I think it was originally meant to be semi-annual, but after the first issue it was announced that it would become an annual publication.

The editor, Lawrence Dagstine, made the mistake of buddying up to Nickolaus Pacione. They had a quid pro quo agreement that Pacione would print a story of Dagstine’s in his Tabloid Purposes 4, and Dagstine would print a story of Pacione’s in the second issue of The Literary Bone.

Had he done his homework, Mr. Dagstine would have known that any association with Pacione is, for all practical purposes, career suicide. Perhaps he knew this, and thought he could use Pacione ’s reputation to garner publicity for himself, escaping the taint that Pacione leaves in his wake. A few have, but precious few.

The Literary Bone has shut down. There will be no issue #2. The flashpoint was an interview that Dagstine did with Pacione and uploaded to his MySpace. As usual, Pacione spewed venom at virtually everyone he erroneously credits with being responsible for his stalled/failed career as a writer. Nevermind the fact that his own threatening demeanor and lack of command of the English language have far more to do with it than anything else.

That interview attracted too much attention and many comments; it has since been removed, and the entire MySpace has gone friends-only. That is not a good sign for a publication that wanted to get its name out there in cyberspace.

Today on his Blogspot, Dagstine made this momentous announcement:

“Sad news… After One-Year, The Literary Bone says farewell. There will not be an Issue #2… I would say that there will most likely never be an Issue #2. Authors have been notified or they have emailed me, and I have told them that their short stories are released.”

We may never know the real story behind the closure of The Literary Bone. Dagstine at first professed to have no knowledge whatsoever about Pacione’s reputation. That doesn’t ring true because he had been associating with the guy for a good year; anyone can do a Google search, which would have turned up tons of information.

I have to conclude that Dagstine knew all about Nicky’s reputation, yet proceeded with the interview anyway to garner publicity for himself and his self-published magazine. The ploy backfired. It got him publicity alright, but not the kind any editor would want.

When challenged about his lack of knowledge regarding Pacione’s reputation, he changed his story to claim that he knew all along about it, and cultivated the phony friendship to expose Pacione for the jerk that he is. No news there. Anyone who has received a death threat from Pacione already knows he’s a jerk.

The final straw was when he sent Janrae Frank a personal message on her Xanga account. She made it public and gave people, including me, permission to post it elsewhere; that is her prerogative to do. That’s when Dagstine started leaving thinly veiled threats on her blog, and she called his bluff.

Dagstine lost that cockfight, and folded his magazine.

Nickolaus Pacione has a habit of turning everything he touches to dust. It’s unfortunate that Mr. Dagstine got caught up in this, but on one level, I sort of suspect that he got what was coming to him. He might have been able to make his gamble pay off, but he didn’t play his cards right.

We went on a mission today. No, not to go steal more rocks. I wanted cilantro seedlings, and desperately needed some Round-up. Our subdivision's homeowner association decided in its infinite wisdom that it will not run the sprinklers at all this year, in an effort to keep down costs. That means the dandelion population got way out of control, and now they're sprouting up in my flower beds.

They're probably skimping a bit on landscaping too, because the lawn should be cut twice a week this time of year, but they're letting it go to seed. Maintenance costs have soared the past couple of years, and people are really complaining about it. I don't see how letting the lawns go to seed and brown out before the dog days of summer even hit is going to help keep up property values any better than cutting services and increasing fees will. They can't even collect recyclables more than once a week, and then have the nerve to yell at us the commie bins are overflowing.

Basically, anyone who has a garden will now have to water it by hand. Ladies and gentlemen, start your hoses. Even the sedum's wilting, but the termite contractors may have something to do with that. They destroyed a bed of lilies of the valley and most of my bee balm.

We're supposed to get t-storms this evening; it's already muggy enough for it.

Hmm--a friend just IMed me that Peaches Pacione is trying to get her in trouble with the MySpace TOS police for posting her own book's cover art, the the TOS police fell for it and sent her a threatening note about it. Sheesh. Rule number one of being on the police squad is "find out whether the person making the complaint about someone else is career crank before taking them at their word. In this case, he is. Peaches is well known for harassing authors. In fact, he's infamous for harrassing anyone who thinks his writing sucks, regardless of whether they are actually competitors of his. He posts his own cover art and banners all over the internet, then rats on another author for doing jsut that--there's no copyright violation whatsoever involved.

So Peaches, if you're reading this--you're a schmuck. I'd have a lot worse things to say to you, but this blog is read by several god-fearing Christians, who really don't need to be subjected to sailor-speak.

LJ: "We KNOW Drama"

The horrible horror writer is at it again. Every six months or so, he can't help himself, and challenges the world to a duel.

He was banned from LiveJournal a few years ago, but recently made his way back on. Further, he set up a syndicated feed there from his Xanga. Over the past five or so years, he's made many enemies among not only the writing community, but also among anyone who thinks his writing is awful. Seriously, I'm not a competitor jealous of his talent for mangling the English language: I grow orchids, make a living at math, and love gardening. But I can string together a coherent sentence. That makes me the enemy.

Predictably, when he set up his syndicated feed in a venue that does attract a lot of writers and would-be writers, people criticized not only his writing talent (or lack thereof), but also his immature, nasty, and outright rude behavior. Those who have only become recently acquainted with him and his writing always ask whether English is his second language.

What happens when people get on his case? Things go "splodey,"of course. It's vastly entertaining for a boring evening at home. SJ went out this evening to play at a local chess club meeting, so I have a few hours on my hands.

I've been a bit busy lately. He Who Cannot Write got banned from Livejournal about four years ago, and recently made a reappearance under a slightly altered name, leaving no doubt who he is. Google alerts are wonderful things. I swiped a feed, and spread the word. This is rather funny, because after he got banned he threatened to sue Livejournal for discrimination against him because he's mentally handicapped. He's not physically handicapped, mind you, (or not, since we are talking about a mindless person). He got booted from the Navy because of his mental illness.

He's what our grandparents would have called "slow." Anyway, it's enough to qualify him for disability benefits, allegedly because he can't work for a living, despite the fact that he writes short stories and self-publishes anthologies by the boatload without paying his naive contributors. I wonder if the state of IL and Uncle Sam know about the income he gets from his "writing career." It's next to nothing, because he's the only one who buys his crap, but he's not supposed to have any other source of income at all to get these benefits.

It would be sad if the guy were not so obnoxious to those who don't bow down at the awesomeness that is Pacione and worship his writing. Dude needs a Strunk & White, a dictionary and a thesaurus. He "literary" thinks that my use of the word literary just now is correct. Substitutes literary for literally time and again, so it can't be a stray typo or two. Anyone who ever so politely suggests that he fix typos, misspellings, grammatical errors, and impossibly convoluted plots, or lack thereof, is told to go to hell, drink bleach, get "some" AIDS, etc. Those phrases are at the politer end of his repertoire. Death and arson threats are at the other end.

Dude needs a shower, haircut, and shave. And his granny with whom he lives needs to wash out his mouth with soap. But I gather that the majority of his family thinks his illegal threats are funny. Same with his extortion attempts, hitting people up with $900 PayPal invoices for alleged damages to his sales for reviewing his publicly posted short stories.

Seriously, check out his blogs, if you have the stomach, and happen to be bored. The three he uses the most can be found here, here, and here. He has a bunch more, although he lost his Deadjournal and Greatestjournal for TOS violations.

It takes a bit of time and effort to track down his latest exploits and expose them for the world to see. That's what's been taking so much of my time lately. And work. Always work. At least I earn a paycheck rather than mooching off taxpayers, pretending to be unable to work.

Unbelievable. The "horrible writer," Nickolaus A. Pacione, makes a career blasting people who actually make money by writing, and anyone else who is less than impressed with his myriad spelling and grammar mistakes. At one time or another, he's accused at least a couple dozen of us of ruining his book sales, e-pirating his fiction, called us vile names, and sent us e-mail death threats. He repeatedly told me to get "nut cancer" until he realized that's physically impossible, to get hit by a car, etc. I've gotten off relatively easily compared to others in his cross-hairs. One person I know of has a couple of restraining orders against this jerk.

Every year or so he posts an insincere public "apology" to one of his victims. Let's face it: his books don't sell because they're unreadable crap, and he's extremely obnoxious.

While he normally self-publishes anthologies, in which he contributes one or two short stories, and lists himself as the editor, it's quite obvious that he doesn't even properly proofread the other "contributions." I use the term loosely, because the writers almost never actually get paid for their work, except maybe in the form of an Adobe .pdf format copy. At first the newbie writers are thrilled to be published by this jerk, but when they realize they've been stiffed, they refuse to contribute any more stories, and he has to go recruit fresh blood on college campuses.

This guy is poisonous. Here's his latest "apology" to a writer who has actually been very nice to me over the past couple of years. Apology indeed.

"An Apology"

As much as I hate Mary Sangiovanni, I want to apologize for bringing her son into it. One thing I want from her is to quit ruining sales of House of Spiders 3. Just that she bragged about owning a copy of a book that really blasted my family and the writers stalked my blogs and pirated my anthologies.

Will you shut up already?!?!?! You're obviously insane. Please seek therapy.

Do you really believe all these delusions? Since you live in your parents' house, do they worry about you? You are insane.

How is this an apology, and to whom? To us, or to Mary? In three short sentences you continue to blast her for causing your non-existant book sales and for enjoying a legally purchased hardcopy book. The former is patently absurd, and the latter just means that she has a wicked sense of humor.

No one pirated your stinking anthologies.
